About this grant
Community Stories provides $25,000 CAD for Canadian museums, heritage, cultural, or Indigenous organizations to develop a digital storytelling project using DMC's website-building platform. Projects must be bilingual (English and French) and can include a third language for additional funding. The program aims to build digital capacity and share diverse stories.
Who can apply
- Museums, heritage, cultural, or Indigenous organizations established and operating in Canada with a physical establishment or site, open to the public or providing programming to the public.
- Registered charities (CRA registered).
- Indigenous nations, groups, or organizations operating similarly to a not-for-profit supporting Indigenous heritage and culture.
- Federally or provincially incorporated not-for-profits (NPO).
- Municipal, provincial, or band heritage organizations, or university-affiliated organizations operating independently.
- Must have been in existence for at least 1 year with legal status at time of proposal submission (on or before December 1).
- Eligible types: museums, galleries, Indigenous cultural centres, historic sites, historical societies, science centres, botanical gardens, planetariums, artist-run centres, archives, zoos, aquariums, etc.
Who cannot apply
- Organizations that are members of the Canadian Heritage Portfolio.
- Museums associations, professional associations, membership organizations, community centres, recreation centres, magazines, and publishing organizations.
- Organizations with a previously funded DMC project still in development (must be completed before December 1 deadline).
- Projects that are simply searchable collections databases or archives without a curated story.
- Institutional or corporate websites and digitization projects.
- Projects for political, ideological, religious, commercial, or fundraising purposes.
Application process
- Submit a proposal using the DMC online application platform (https://mnc-dmc.smapply.ca/).
- New applicants must first submit an Eligibility Application for review (decision within ~10 business days).
- Call for Proposals opens June 15 and closes December 1.
- Proposals must be submitted before the deadline by the organization responsible for the project.
- DMC will evaluate only proposals meeting all eligibility requirements.
- Successful applicants receive a Letter of Award and sign a legally binding agreement with the Canadian Museum of History.
