About this grant
Digital Museums Canada's Digital Projects stream provides up to $250,000 for Canadian museums, heritage, cultural, and Indigenous organizations to develop accessible online projects from the ground up with web development agency support. Projects must be digital storytelling experiences, not simple databases or archives, and must be bilingual (English and French). The program is currently closed; the next call opens June 15 and closes December 1.
Who can apply
- Museums, heritage, cultural or Indigenous organizations established and operating in Canada with a physical establishment or site open to the public or providing programming.
- Registered charities (CRA), Indigenous nations/groups/organizations operating similarly to not-for-profits supporting Indigenous heritage, federally or provincially incorporated not-for-profits, or municipal/provincial/band heritage organizations or university-affiliated organizations.
- Must have been in existence for at least 1 year with legal status at time of proposal submission.
- Organizations may only submit one proposal per call (Digital Projects or Community Stories).
- Previously funded organizations must have completed existing DMC-funded projects before the deadline.
Who cannot apply
- Organizations that are members of the Canadian Heritage Portfolio.
- Museums associations, professional associations, membership organizations, community centres, recreation centres, magazines, and publishing organizations.
- Organizations with a previously funded DMC project still in development.
- Projects that are simply searchable collections databases or archives without a curated story.
- Institutional or corporate websites and digitization projects.
- Projects for political, ideological, religious, commercial, or fundraising purposes.
Application process
- Submit a proposal via the DMC online application platform (https://mnc-dmc.smapply.ca/).
- New applicants must first submit an Eligibility Application for review (decision within ~10 business days).
- Call for Proposals opens June 15 and closes December 1.
- Application Assistance available September to November.
- Proposals must include a budget up to $250,000 CAD.
- Funds are released over phases upon review and approval of deliverables.
